Portsmouth Registered Beauticians
Mission Statement: We will put God first in everything we do, which will bring out the best in our achievements. We are dedicated to give the best service possible to our clients with continuing education and giving back to the community.
The Portsmouth Chapter has a long rich history. There are many pioneers I did not meet on their journey. This history is dedicated to those of you whose shoulders we stand on.
In 1955 State President Florece Bland asked Sandra Barbara Faulks to move from Norfolk Chapter to Portsmouth to rebuild the Portsmouth Chapter. At that time we had three members active in our chapter. Sandra Faulks went to work immediately getting members and associate members to join our chapter,
soon we had about 20 members all headed to continuing education by attending state classes in preparation to go to the National Classes. Promising education and fellowship John Blowe, owner of Hicks Beauty School joined bringing Barbers and students as associate members. In February of 2005, Gordelia Green Johnson merged with Portsmouth Chapter bringing pioneers, Ann Hightower, Lizzette Garrison, and Victoria Epps. Shortly after in May of the same year Suffolk Chapter joined us bringing two more pioneers, sisters, Thelma Hicks, and Georgia Pope bringing a wealth of knowledge. Portsmouth Chapter supports the Oasis Foundation in Portsmouth, homeless. We also adopt a family each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
