Our club was organized with the ideas of Mrs. Cora Gaines, Mrs. Sarah Ward, along with, and at the home of Mrs. Lupe Bowden in 1950. The name originated from the three counties Matthews, Gloucester and King and Queen. Thus we became M.K. &G Local #19 Beauticians.
Our reasons for organizing are:
- To bring a closer union between the adjoining counties and the State.
- To better ourselves as beauticians and to be useful citizens.
- To help price control
- To help educate those who would like to secure a diploma or Ma degree to better themselves thru NBCL
We lend a helping hand wherever we are needed in the community. Each year we donate to the needy and churches. We have won various trophies for hair styling and outstanding achievements. Our affairs have been held from county to county over the years. Muriel Epps, one of our members, was elected Control Organizer of the Virginia State Beauticians Association. Since we organized three more counties have joined us: Middlesex, King William and Kilmarnock. Thus changing our name to M2, K2 and G Local #19. We are happy to say that we are keeping to our obligations. Our colors are Blue and Gold.
